March 16, 2008 at 2:03 pm · Filed under Answer English Blog, London Life · Posted by James

Easter Sunday is 23 March. Many language students will want to worship. All local churches will have services, so please ask at your school or accommodation for details. If you want to join a service at one of the larger churches, then here are details for Easter Sunday. This includes Westminster Cathedral for those of the Catholic faith.

St Patrick’s Day

March 10, 2008 at 2:01 pm · Filed under Answer English Blog, London Life · Posted by James

St Patrick’s Day is the day when English Language Students can learn how to party. There are few better teachers than the Irish on St Patrick’s Day. This year it falls on Monday 17 March, but many events will be on Sunday 16 March.

If you study in London, then the place to go on Sunday 16 March is Park Lane at 12.00 (noon). This is where the Parade starts. There are marching bands, floats, street theatre and much more – this is one of the most colourful parades of the year. All 32 Irish counties are represented, dressed in their traditional county colours, as well as London Irish and Londoners.

The Parade will take you to Trafalgar Square, where the stage is packed with Irish Bands of every size and type. One of the reasons that London is the Music Centre of the World is the diversity of London music to hear.

If dancing is more for you, then take the short walk to Leicester Square to see the Ceili Mor – a celebration of Irish dancing, where you can watch, learn and join in.

So, don’t wonder what to do in London this weekend – just be there. It’s FREE – one of many things to do in London that are free throughout the year. There are 100 Great Ideas on how to enjoy London and save money published by Answer English. If you are visiting London to learn English, you can get a copy FREE.
