Treasure Hunt

Answer English Treasure Hunt

The greatest event of the week without doubt was the Treasure Hunt. Answer English organized for over 40 students from Regent School an afternoon full of fun and English history.

The students got a worksheet which was divided into three different parts regarding general knowledge about events and dates in English history. The first part was about answering questions from a speech about the naval hero Horatio Nelson. Secondly they had to ask the public to answer their questions.  The third part was about paintings from the National Gallery so they had to answer the questions inside the building.

At the end we had two lucky winners who friendly shared their sweeties with their team members. All in all the students had a lot of fun and improved their general knowledge at the same time.  We would like to thank you for the great positive feedback and looking forward doing the next Treasure Hunt!

La mia Londra: consigli per vivere la capitale CULTURE - My London: tips to enjoy the life of the Capital CULTURES (by Annalisa)

carnaval del pueblo 2008

LONDRA MULTICULTURALE

MULTICULTURAL LONDON

London is really the multicultural capital city of Europe: here it is possible to travel around the world with flavours, rhythms, colours and religions. The Central Mosque in Baker Street, the Hindu Temple in Neasden and the Buddhist one in Wimbledon are only few of the buildings of achitectural and cultural interest in London. Africa and Caribbean are living in the south, in Elephant & Castle, Brixton, Peckham, but also Hackney in the east; the Bengali community resides in the East End (Brick Lane and Whitechapel are some examples), but Asian atmospheres are breathed in the west too, Southall, and some zones of the north; we don’t have to forget the well-known Chinatown in Soho. In all these areas you can find traditional food, music, clothes and crafts.

Tip: Notting Hill Carnival is undoubtedly the most popular street event in London and it hosts thousands of people every year, among deafening music and floods of beer. If you are looking for true rhythms and costumes however, the Carnaval del Pueblo, taking place on August in Elephant & Castle, is right for you.

La mia Londra: consigli per vivere la capitale MERCATI - My London: tips to enjoy the life of the Capital MARKETS (by Annalisa)

LONDRA MERCATI

LONDON MARKETS

London is known for its markets and you can’t come to London without visiting at least one of them. The most popular ones are Camden Town and Portobello Road, and they are certainly worth a visit, but each borough has got its own smaller markets, particularly on Sundays, and some are very interesting.

Tip: I suggest to spend one Sunday morning in the East End, where in a very restricted area you can visit 4 different markets: Petticoat Lane (certainly cheap clothes but also very basic ones), Spitalfield Market (a beautiful structure and variegated expositors: crafts, clothes, vintage articles…), Brick Lane (here as well you can find many different things, from crafts to clothes, besides smells and flavours from all around the world. Along the street also music, second hand objects, young artists retails, vintage clothes or fabrics shops, colorful bars and oriental fragrances) ending with Columbia Road (where a small pretty flowers market takes place, surrounded by shops filled with curious objects and characteristic pubs). If you then think about staying around for the night, Shoredich and Hoxton are at walking distance, with all their trendy restaurants, bars and clubs.
