World Record Holder aims to make more history in aid of Alzheimers

November 19, 2008 at 6:14 pm · Filed under Answer English Blog, London Life · Posted by James

Next week record breaker Charlie Taylor has got a little pre-Christmas holiday planned.  Instead of getting some autumn sun in Dubai or Christmas shopping in New York, Charlie is going to be setting off from St Bees in Cumbria in the frosty late-November dawn and running across the mountains of the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors to Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire.  His only company is his friend Ollie Brodrick-Ward.

Charlie says “we are planning on covering the 192 miles in under four days, carrying only what we need and stopping en route for the bare minimum of rest. Who knows? It could take under three days if we get good weather - whatever happens, we will do it as fast as we can. It’s going to be fun.” At least that’s what Charlie has told the kind people at the Alzheimer’s Society, which is the charity for which he is raising money through the run.

Alzheimer’s is a tragic condition which causes a sickening mental decline in sufferers and one of the saddest ends of all, experienced through a mind riven by the frustration and torment of constant and overwhelming confusion.  The Alzheimer’s Society desperately needs funding for research and treatment to improve the lives of those affected.

If you would be interested in sponsoring him, please visit www.justgiving.com/c2ccharlietaylor.

The France Show 2009

November 14, 2008 at 4:34 pm · Filed under Answer English Blog · Posted by James

The France Show 2009!

The France Show 2009 is the French property and lifestyle exhibition of the year. It kick-starts the exhibition calendar with its celebratory atmosphere and huge crowds that will descend upon Earl’s Court in early January.

Over 23,000 people have secured free tickets in an offer that finishes on 30 November 2008. The success of this offer, coupled with the news that the Telegraph Media Group will be the show’s official media partner securing over £400,000 of media space, guarantees it will be a show to remember.

The number of exhibitors looking to book space has also been very positive considering the current economic climate; with 36 new companies booking space and 57 increasing their pitch size on last year.

Britain’s favourite French chef Jean-Christophe Novelli will be conjuring up some gastronomic delights during his live cookery demonstrations. See his exclusive Christmas recipe videos on the France Show website now at: http://www.thefranceshow.com/foodandwine-details.aspx?id=180

From renovation projects and farmhouses to a Parisian penthouse, there will be something for everyone in the Property section, with hundreds of agents and developers ready to give expert advice.

Other features at the show range from TV5Monde hosting a free mini-theatre with a large screen 35 seat cinema, to top French restaurant and bar, Café des Amis bringing its chic brasserie style and caricature artists creating memorable sketches to take home. A full list of exhibitors can be found at: http://www.thefranceshow.com/exhibitors.aspx

And finally, tickets are still FREE through the website until 30 November 2008. People can book now and save £20 on two tickets for the show.

You can find more information on their website:

Don’t miss this great event!

Pound downturn: What this means for language students

November 13, 2008 at 6:15 pm · Filed under Answer English Blog, London Life · Posted by James

The English currency has reached the worst record downturn of the last 6 years.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer warned the UK’s economic downturn will be ‘more profound and long-lasting’ than people had expected. Now, in fact, the pound is 1.18 against the euro.

But this is not real bad news for international shoppers hunting. Now that the euro gets stronger, it is a really good moment to come to London and search bargains. In particular it will be good for high-end luxury goods which will be almost 10% cheaper compared with the other countries of Europe.  Besides, this will be a good situation not only for the Europeans people, but also for the retailers who were destined to a crisis because of the economic downturn.

It is always better to see the positive side of things!

P.S. Language courses are cheaper too!
