Funny Story from across the world

As reported in Sunday Times 05 April 2009:

“Could this be America’s worst-planned robbery? A 19 year-old man staged a hold-up in the lavatories at a conference centre in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  His mistake?  The victim was a retired police chief, who was armed.  The second mistake?  The police chief was attending a narcotics convention, along with 300 serving officers.  He handed over money and a phone but then gave chase, with colleagues joining in.  The suspect was arrested at gunpoint as he tried to escape in a taxi.  John Comparetto, the robbery victim, said “This is probably the dumbest criminal in Pennsylvania”.

hold-up: to try to rob someone or something e.g. a bank
narcotics: drugs
handed over: to give something to someone
dumbest: stupidest

Amusing Quote

“It’s amazing that the amount of news that happens in the world every day always just exactly fits the newspaper.”  Jerry Seinfeld
