Captain Birdseye finishes half marathon fully baked

September 27, 2009 at 5:40 pm · Filed under Answer English Blog, London Life · Posted by James

Captain Birdseye, aka James Herbertson - our Managing Director, finished the Run to the Beat half marathon in under two hours, despite sweltering conditions.  Competing for the first time in this competition, James had to put up with blazing sunshine and 25 degrees temparatures.  Dressed with sailors cap and beard, James did his best impression of Captain Birdseye - the popular marketing character of Fish Fingers - to raise money for the RNLI.

All happening in Newcastle

September 25, 2009 at 9:55 am · Filed under Answer English Blog · Posted by James

Our English school in Newcastle has just signed a 30 year lease on new premises at Gallowgate in the heart of Newcastle city centre.

They are moving into new much larger and more attractive premises just around the corner.   Close to their student apartments at Charlotte House, I am sure that students will enjoy the new premises.  I personally was shown around by Trevor, the school’s Managing Director, back in March when work was ‘in progress’.

Between now and December this year the whole team will be working very hard to refurbish and refit the new school with excellent classrooms, welfare and administration facilities.

We await with anticipation the Grand Opening in January 2010!  Hopefully Answer English will be invited to the opening ceremony!  If you are interested in being one of the first to enjoy classes in the new building, enjoying 2009 prices: Contact Us

Need inspiration, check this out

Nothing is more inspirational than seeing the dedication of teachers and their devotion to their students welfare and education.  For the last two summers we have welcomed a group from Vila de Cavalls, Catalunya in Spain.  Belen and Judith are the un-sung heroes of the language industry for me.

I had the chance to enjoy a trip to the park with them and their 40 students in the summer.  In the photos Belen & Judith reward their students with chocolates for their excellent behaviour (and patience learning cricket from Stuart - Language in London & myself):

Our Fingers Crossed Competition winners have been enjoying themselves in London.  Here is what Jordana and her friend Belen had to say: ‘Many thanks for everything, we had a great time in London.  Both the school (Malvern House: London - West End) and the residence (Dinwiddy House) were very good, we didn’t have a single problem.  Best regards from Spain, Thanks again.’

Special Moment

September 22, 2009 at 8:10 pm · Filed under Answer English Blog · Posted by James

Special moment…  Just spent three days meeting the great and the good from the language industry at the excellently organised ALPHE fair and Star Awards.  There I was able to catch up with schools from all around the world, hear about new courses for 2010 and prepare for another year of giving you the student what you are looking for.

One highlight was the Star Awards, where it was a chance to let our hair down a little bit too.  What made it so special was I bumped into my very first Spanish teacher who I hadn’t seen for over ten years Inma.  If it hadn’t been for her I would never have been inspired to learn Spanish and start Answer English.  I owe her a lot.

Here is a photo of us meeting.  She is on the right with a colleague of hers from Malaca Instituto Inge in the middle.

Who would have thought ten years ago!

A truly special moment!
