Labelled "the capital of New Age chic” by Time magazine and considered one of the top 10 places to be by the British Airways magazine High Life, Totnes has a strong alternative and eco-aware community pioneering many green initiatives. Chief amongst these is the Transition Town initiative, where the town is working to re-develop itself as a sustainable community, committed to cutting down its carbon emissions, reducing its dependence on oil and becoming self-reliant in practical ways. We even have our own Totnes Pound, introduced to keep money circulating in the local area and reduce dependence on big business.
