One area of the English language students find difficult is speaking. In the General English with Conversation class you are encouraged not to write anything down and to concentrate on communication. This programme is the same as the General English course of 3 hours a day plus a further 1 hour of Conversation.
General English with Conversation is the most popular course at London - British Museum. At the top of the school, there are two rooms filled with comfy bean bags and sofas for the conversation classes. Students run up the stairs to ensure they get the best spot to sit. The objective of this programme is to speak more confidently and to lose your fear of making mistakes. Watch how after taking the course you approach talking with native speakers with more assurance and are understood easily. The pronunciation part of the course looks at individual sounds, word and sentence stress and intonation with some focus on the important aspects of phonetics.
Aimed at: Students of all ages who are looking to focus more on their pronunciation and conversational English. This course is available to students of Elementary, Pre-intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, Advanced levels. This course is not appropriate for Total Beginners. (If you are a Total Beginner check out this course).
Benefits of doing this course: You will cover the four language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) but will also have an extra hour everyday in a special conversation class. If you want to be more confident at communicating your ideas and views in different situations then this is the course for you. You will be able to give presentations, discuss the news, debate important topics and talk with people with different levels of English.
Methodology: London - British Museum favours using text books, newspapers, audio recordings, video / DVD, the Internet and e-learning. The Conversation hour will include discussions, debates and presentations as well as pronunciation practice.
Summer Timetable: During the summer London - British Museum operates a split-timetable. Students are tested first thing on Monday morning. They are then according to their level placed in their respective class with students of similar abilities. Students will then take classes alternating between the mornings and the afternoons. This was trialed last year and was very popular with the students as they could enjoy a lie-in some days (when perhaps they'd been out late the night before) or go to see a museum in the afternoon (when they had classes in the morning). Classes could be Mon, Wed and Fri in the Morning and Tues and Thurs in the Afternoon or vice versa.
